What can I feed my dog? To help the environment, save money and make him healthier.?

I am assuming that all of the packaging on dog food has an effect on the environment.

I have a very picky Poodle called Herbie, he will only eat Marks And Spencers Gourmet! (or whatever is on my plate) Needless to say this costs me a fortune.

I need to know - a homemade recipe I could make once a week and maybe freeze - to provide him with all of his nutrients.

He is a miniature Poodle - so he doesn't eat alot.

Thanks
Helen

Try reading up on the BARF diet. you can make it easy for your little dog - it was going to be a nightmare for me as I have two giant dogs and I just couldn't buy enough - but it is basically about using bones, veggies and meat - type BARF diet into amazon or ebay - and there are recipes on the web too - you can freeze "patties" that you make up in advance - and I am pretty sure if you cook for yourself rather than ready meals (as you sound quite conciencious) you will find the BARF economical.
Try Organic pet food - should be better for him.
Organic pet food will be better for the environment and your dog, but won't probably save you money (though compared to the expensive stuff, maybe it will). You will probably find organic pet food at an organic or health food grocer, probably not at a regular grocer with an organic section.

If you're really looking for the cheap and healthy, some people believe the best and most natural food for dogs is raw food and raw meat on the bone (sometimes called "BARF").
This one is certainly food for thought! >http://www.fruitnut.net/index2.htm?pag=6.

Surely most natural way would be to train him to catch his own food to kill and eat ?
try fresh rabbit and carrots he will be ok if not try a kennel home he will eat there
Food scraps, what you dont eat the dog will.
if u go on healthypetnet there is a dog food there that we feed our dog it made her coat so much healthier and is all organic
Hi have a look at bark busters you'll find it if you look on google.

Dogs were not designed to eat anything other than raw meat, bones and the vegetation found in the stomach and gut of their prey.

We have changed the diet of our dogs and the results are spectacular.
