What does this mean?

About 10 years ago, while I was walking to catch a bus, I passed a house where there was a German shepherd in the yard. The dog started walking alongside me, and when we got to a crowded area he would growl at anyone who came near me or even passed me on the sidewalk. People started yelling at me to control "my dog", but he was NOT my dog.I had never seen him before. When I got to the bus stop I sat down on a bench and the dog put his front legs up on my lap and just looked into my face. I went into a store, hoping he would go away, but when I went out 10 minutes later he was still there. I sat down again, and again he put his front legs up on my lap. When my bus came, he tried to get on with me, but of course he was shut out. He ran after the bus until he could no longer keep up.

To this day remember this dog and wonder WHY he acted that way.
Answers:
A similar thing happened to me when I was in Italy. There were a group of stray dogs that lived in the village and everyone shooed them away. Every time we walked into the village the dogs would follow us and stay with us and wait for us while we went into the stores.
We were staying in a Franciscan Monastery and I found it strange that the monks would kick @ them and yell "via, Via"( go, go).
S. Francis is the patron saint of animals, no?
We had a campfire in the woods one night and the all-white female dog sat @ the end of the trail with her back to us as if watching out for anything that may come up the trail.
We found out later there were bears and wolves around the mountain.
I beleive some dogs are Angels. Maybe that's why they have been known as man's best friend.
Sounds like that Greman Shephard was your gaurdian that day.
Someitmes we can be entertaining angels unaware of who they are. Obviously, the dog saw something in you, something it liked.
As for the "agression"- you never know, someone could have been lurking after you and the dog acted as if he were yours in order to scare away that person.
I would just be glad for that interaction- indeed very special!!
You must have looked uncannily like his owner.
he loved u.. aww
you could have been reminder the dog about another person or owner that it previously loved or cared about. There must have been a connection or something special about you.You are lucky!
A VERY CUTE special STORY!
maybe you reminded him of someone special he lost long ago. animals are smart. they just cant talk.
Something similar happened to me while on vacation in Spain. Eventually we lost the poor soul.
He was your friend/family in your last life time ! Who recognized you and was Turing to get your attention !
maybe he was treated badly before and wanted to escape and found you as a friend ( remember dogs have an excellent judge of personality
The dog sensed something in you and decided that you were a perfect match to be his owner. As for the protection, the dog mus have thought of you as his property and needed to protect you.

what does this dog look like dog breed chindachmaoodle?

Answers:
probably pretty cute.
A Chihuahua-Dachound-Maltese-poo. all mixed up together----A mixed Breed!
To us, or to another chindachmaoodle?
chihuahua, dachound, poodle is wat i think
A mixed breed mutt .. since that is what it is.
IF HE LOVES YOU, WHAT DOES IT MATTER???
It could look like anything. It is a mutt.
Imagine a chihuahua with long curly white silky hair and no undercoat and short legs and a long body.

How frightening!!1
It similar to a Hot Dog and Burrito cross.
NOT any "breed"!

It could only "look like" the HORRIBLE MUTT/MONGREL it IS!

It's IMPOSSIBLE to predict ANYTHING about MUTTS/MONGRELS!!,which is the POINT of pure bred animals!
DUH?

What does PETA think about animals in the streets of Mexico?

There are many different "liberated" animals in the streets of Mexico struggling every day for their lives. What do the members of PETA think about their quality of life?
Answers:
PETA doesn't think about any thing but making money. They would simply kill the dogs of Mexico, and solve the problem..They don't really want to liberate animals, except liberating them to the Rainbow bridge, and liberating you from your wallet..
who do you mean by their? The animals? If it is the animals (though I'm not part of PETA) then I think it is terrible and that their quality of life is real bad. Many die and it's sad really.
i have never hear of PETA, how ever i think people should take a stand and help these animals!! if we don't who will!?? they can't help them selves! and yes they are worth helping no mater their condition!
Life is like that for dogs in many countries. It is so sad. My son has a friend whose dad is a vet and they have a vacation home in Belize. Whenever they go there on vacation, the father/vet rounds up all the dogs around his home who are obviously homeless animals and spays/neuters them. Also, vaccinates them, treats them for worms, fleas, ticks, feeds, bathes, does any other kind of medical treatments they need.
peta thinks of nothing.its now a buisiness or political society.its persons works for their own welfare.now its membership is like a status symbol.i think you cannot do any welfare of street homeless animals if you are not dadicated to them.it becomes very slow process.these things need direct action i.e medicines, food, shelters nothing else.PETA believes in talking only .I am from india. I have dedicated my life for stray animals.we face lack of medicines, food in animals shelters.we have covered 200 k.m area of homeless animals.24 hour we are on this work.we go out in nights also when we here call of any accident of animals.we provide free vaccines for animals in case of mass desiease.we asked PETA for providing us medicines and help for food for homeless animals.but they never answered us.what is this organisation for?tv,newpaper only.To save a dying sick stray dog full with maggots and boddy wound ,looking for shelter and food it needs direct action of providing medicines, treatment and food.talking will do nothing. This is PETA.you can visit my site www.sickanimals.teach-nology.c. to see my work about stray animals. Is there any one in peta who cares and treat dying rotten animals like me 24 hour.where their funds go if they cannot help people like us with medicines for sick %26handic. animals?
How do you spell taco!
LMAO!

*WHY* would anybody care what those HUMANIACS "think".if one could call it "thinking"?

Peta KILLS 95% of the animals they get!
First, one must have a brain in order to think. Peta are still trying to find their way to Oz
Oh for crying out loud, PeTA couldn't care less. They only care about making money, killing animals and ending all pet ownership.

And HSUS, IDA, DDAL, ADL, etc are ALL the same.

What does one do when his/her dog's knee keeps popping out of place (read details)?

Hello! Any info would be appreciated. This is the situation:
-My dog (American Eskimo) recently keeps popping out his HIND knees.
-We've been to the vet multiple times regarding this issue, AND have gotten medication.
-BUT his knees are still popping out (and we realize it might be because the medications have not been "kicking in" yet but may in the future)
-HOWEVER, it is still worrisome when his knees are out and cannot walk. The vet knew how to pop it back into place, but we do not. Any info?

Any help appreciated.
Answers:
DOn't think blade whatsmaallit read the question!

The problem is knees NOT hips or elbows.

Unfortunately, there are some breed that have tendon and ligament problems that lead to knees (or here hocks) displacing.

Sometimes it can be corrected with surgery.

For that, I would recommend a trip to the nearest vet school/clinic to an orthpedic specialist.

Alternatively, it could be a cruxcator ligament injury.

That has become a pretty standard surgery - too many couch potatoes going out leaping around and blowing out the ligament from being unfit.

You need to ask your vet WHY the hock is displacing.

Drugs won't keep the hock in place it will only alleviate the pain.

In the meantime, put him in a nice comfortable bed with water and food in reach without rising and help him up every 3-4 hours to go outside.
take her to the vet again duhhhhhhhhhhh
I'm assuming this is because of a dysplastic dog? Although a few patients can be maintained for long periods, even years, with pain medication and anti-inflammatory drugs, this is usually not the answer. There are three basic surgeries, all of which attempt to eliminate or reduce the pressure between the two arthritic surfaces.

The first surgery involves the cutting of the pectinious, which is one of the muscles that try to add stability to the joint by forcing the two bones back together. When it is cut or has a portion removed, the two bones move apart. We have had varied success with this procedure in our practice. It sometimes eliminates all pain and further surgery is not required.

The second type of surgery is the removal of the femoral head. No bony attachment between the leg and the rest of the body sounds radical, but the dog's body will compensate as the outer muscles in the area become stronger and hold the leg in place. This allows near-normal motion and use. Remember that the front leg of the dog is held to the body by muscles only; there is no bone-to-bone connection between the front legs and the rest of the skeleton. By removing the femoral head we eliminate the pain of the two bones coming in contact with each other. We have many active dogs in our practice that were able to continue their active lifestyles because of this surgery.

The final surgical technique available to a patient with dysplasia is total replacement with an artificial joint made of steel and high-impact plastic. This is very expensive and rarely necessary.

Throughout all of this, please remember that the individual dog affected with dysplasia can usually be helped to live a life that is generally free of pain. I would like to stress that fact.
Hopefully this is of help to you. Hugs and kisses to your baby.
my friend has two Boston Bulls, both with bad knees
both had surgery and are perfect now
My friend has a black lab that went through the same thing he had to have surgery that cost her $4,ooo dollars hopefully you don't have to go this route.

What does nuetering a dog mean??

Answers:
Surgically removing a male dog's testicles
cut off his balls.
she's got it, right on the money!
Actually they don't cut off the balls. they remove the testes in the scrotum.
exactly what the first person said.the dog gets "fixed" so that he cannot get a girl dog pregnant
To make it neutral; an IT dog.

A ditch or a bog.
taking off his knackers if its a boy or doing its tubes if its a girl
They make it so that he can not breed with any other dogs.unable to reproduce offspring.
It means making it incapable of reproducing ( making puppies) IT's called spaying in females and nuetering in males. For males it basically entails snipping the tube the sperm flows out of. For females it means removing the entire utereus of the dog.
they take the dogs balls off so the dog wont get a dog pregnant and its for there health
it means fixing the dog. Making the dog unable to have babies.
no more puppys for that dog
They take out the testicles.
To make him incapable of reproducing
Technically, when an animal is neutered it means that it's incapable of reproducing. This can be done to both males and females. For males, it's called castration, which is the removal of the testicles so he can't produce any sperm.
For females, it's called an ovariohysterectomy or spay, this is the removal of the ovaries and uterus so that she can no longer produce eggs.
Both procedures should be done at an early age so that the animal will be happy and healthy. They both help prevent and eliminate the chance of getting certain types of cancers.

What does my dream about dogs mean, when I don't even like them?

I was at my mom's house with the back door opened. I saw a dog in the yard. I told her to close the door. I'm afraid of dogs! But she didn't and the dog slipped in. To my surprise there was another dog in the house too. I'm screaming to tell someone/anyone to get them out. The biggest dog (who happened to be pregnant) started raising her leg as if she had to "go". So I picked her up and took her outside. After she used it, she began to cry out. I knew she was getting ready to have the puppy. She did and I was the one to delivered it! I gave the non breathing puppy to my mom and she blew short breaths into the puppy's mouth and he started breathing. I just stood there looking at my dirty hands very emotional that I was apart of the experience. I woke up still emotional and looking at my hands.(UH..

Dreams are rarely literal. It may not really be about dogs, at all. If you have a fear of dogs, they may, in your dream, replace another fear in your subconcious. Is there something going on in your life right now that you are anxious about, but could be positive (i.e. a new career, relationship, move, etc.)? It could be that you are nervous about that, but know that if you dive in and do what you have to do, it could be a really good thing. It is most likely that your dream is about that. And your subconcious is trying to relieve the pressure you've been putting on yourself while making the decisions involved.
U have Rabies, u are a RABID Gal aaaaarrrrrhhhhhhh!
Your deep seated fear of dogs can be traced to a specific experience. If you can work on that issue in counseling and relieve yourself of it by having carefful and loving encounters with dogs, you will find a genuine renewal of your spirit.
Get help, there is something wrong with you, if you don't like dogs!
maybe your a dog.
I think the fact is that you say you dont like dogs but deep inside you really care for them. Maybe go to an Animal Shelter play with a dog to see if you really do care for one. I used to be afraid of dogs myself, but now I have 2 dogs and were planning on getting another one.
I think it is a sign that you need to get over your fear. Go talk to someone about why your afraid of dogs and about your dream.
the fear of dogs you have obviously plays on your mind alot and therefore you dream about it. have you not seen a pregnant dog or read about a pregnant dog or watched on the tv in the past few days? that can also be in your thoughts and cause you to dream about them. your dream was you being a lifesaver to that dog by helping to deliver the puppy. deep down i think you must feel something for dogs just need to get over your fear.

What does it mean, when a dog has blood in his stool? Please hurry!?

Answers:
Probably worms - you need to get it taken care of ASAP!
It could mean anything and nothing. What it definitely does mean is a trip to the vets posthaste if you love your pet.
It means you should go to the vet, even on a Sunday, there should be an emergency clinic open.
Good job on noticing it!
it means take him to the vet to be checked out. it may be something serious, but you won't know unless you have a vet check him out
worms for sure
Take him to the vet
Does he chew a lot? He could have chewed something that has torn his intestines a little bit. Chicken bones are bad for them, if he's had those recently. Is the blood bright red or is it mixed in with mucus? Mucus is not good, but bright red usually means it's farther down in the intestines. Probably need to get him checked no matter what.
How old is he? We still need a bit more info, but only a vet can set your mind at ease.

has your dog had anal sex, if not he has a stomach ulsur or a ruptured organ

GO TO THE EMERGENCY PET HOSPITAL NOW BEFORE HE DIES
There are a lot of serious things that it could be. Your vet needs to see a stool sample.
The most likely cause in a healthy dog would be hookworm.
Any time a dog has blood in it's vomit, urine,or feces,it means go to the vet ASAP.Blood in waste or vomit is not common, and is almost allways a sign of a problem or sickness that needs to be taken care of by a Vet. The blood in the stool can range from being something very serious and there is many reasons this can be happening.
Go to the vet and they will give you an accurate diagnosis.

What does it mean when your dog licks your face?

I just got a puppy and I love her to death. I kiss her all the time and she seem to love licking my face as well.

Is that their way of "kissing" or showing their love? Also do they understand that when we kiss them is a sign of our love for them?

Is it bad if I let her lick my face, especially the my mouth area?

Thanks!
Answers:
The truth is wolf puppies lick their mom's face so that the mom will regurgitate food for the puppy. Yum, yum. So when a dog licks a human's face, they want food. We have reinforced the licking with our ooohs and aaahs. And frankly, it's OK by me!

P.S. We carry more germs in our mouths than a dog ever could.
-MM
cuz she's (he's) givin u kisses!
she's licken you cause she loooooooves you! ;) also I don't think it is bad
She/He is loving you back.but the whole around your mouth i wouldnt do that anymore
Dogs do know when you like them, licking is a sign of liking to them. They do not understand kissing. Letting them lick your face and mouth will infect you with all sorts of nasty and harm full germs and bacteria
Next time Fido licks your face, think about want he's been licking.

Arf.
Part of it is affection. Part of it is they like the taste of salt on our skin or the taste of whatever lotion you may have on your skin.

It's not bad but I would not suggest allowing them to lick you around your mouth due to the transfer of germs.

Best of Luck with the new Pup.
Dogs lick faces for several reasons:

a) It's a throw-back to their wolf ancestry. Wolves greet one another with mouth and muzzle licks after returning home from a hunt.

b) Puppies often lick their mother's mouth and muzzle looking for food. When the pups are about 4-5 weeks old, the mother will often regurgitate (vomit) her last meal to give them more food to eat. When hungry, the pups will then lick at the mother's face and mouth trying to get her to vomit again.

c) We also teach dogs to "kiss" us when we respond happily to being licked in the face.

d) In some dogs this can be a sign of dominance. If the dog can reach as high as your head he is displaying the fact that, in the pack heirarchy, he's on the "same level" as you are.

The problem with letting dogs lick your face is that they also lick everything else with their tongues, and if they've picked up germs, bacteria, worms or other parasites with their tongue they can transfer them to you. If you want to continue to let your dog lick your face, just make sure your dog is healthy and that you wash up afterwards.
Because your puppy loveeesss you.
I think pets understand us far more than what we give them credit for. What pets really understand are phrases we use over and over. Example say puppy's name with a exuberant I LOVE YOU! and a kiss. Use a different tone for No. They really understand different tones well. My cat will respond to Hi Sancho by the tone I use, with one simple meow. I know by her tone when she says "I'm hungry". So she's trained me to her tones as well. As for face licking, yeah pets have bacteria (who knows where that tongue was prior to your face), but lets face it - it's hard to turn down a kiss.
Is showing affection.

Is it bad to lick your mouth area? Well.put it this way.puppies also lick their butts..
No it's very natural.I own a dog too.Licking is a sign of love and believe it or not,it's cleaner to kiss a dog than another human being on the lips.
Yuk dont let a dog lick your face they lick their backsides. Yuk germs!

What does it mean when my dog puts his head down on objects in front of me?

It's really cute. I'm sitting watching tv and he just walked up to the coffee table and he placed his head on it and stared at me. He's trying to say something (probably wants to go out right now) but is there a significant meaning? Is there a site I can check out for dogs and how they communicate?
Answers:
your dog probably wants you to go play with it or spend time with it. have you fed it? Do you go with it for walks basically it is saying come and spend time with me. a dog is just like a child they love attention..
Maybe he is admiring you and giving you a loving gaze.
He probably just wants your attention. :-) When I'm doing homework my one Boston Terrier will jump up on my lap and lay on top of my books wanting scratched.
my pup comes up and puts her head on my knee it is her symbol to say "i am gonna jump up on the couch with you now just giving you fair warning wheee flying puppy"
By experience, the dog wants to say that it needs your attention :)
that is like my dog. he is very lovable and loves to play but i dont' think i give him the attention i should. i think that is a sign that u need to get off your lazy but and go play with it. or maybe it just wants geed.

What does it mean when a dog licks you (humans) in the face?

Is it really a show of affection? Just curious, because we always say, "that dog gives lots of kisses" and such. Is it really a form of kisses for a dog? Does the dog instinctively think it is "kissing" you or is it some kind of reaction to what the human is doing?
Answers:
Licking the face is a sign of submission -- if you ever watch documentaries on wolves/wild dogs, you will see the subordinates approach the pack leader and try to lick their faces. Sometimes, it's just puppies wanting (regurgitated) food, but always it's a sign of submission.

You can also see this if you watch packs of domestic dogs (in a dog park, or a doggie day care for instance).

Your dog is basically saying, "I love you, you're the boss".
Its a sign of affection. Also our skin is full of salt, and dogs love it. Thats why they try to lick the colour off of us!

xCx
I don't think the dog thinks of them as kisses, but its just showing you that it likes you and wants you to pay attention to it. Dogs are very needy and want lots of attention.
it means you taste better than their butt.lol
It means "Hey I just licked my butt and ate Bruno's pooh, want to taste it, its great!" Okay just teasing, dog show submission to their Alpha leaders. Dogs are affectionate too. Owners encourage the behaviour by getting all goo-goo ga-ga about it. So it is a combination of both. Just remember dogs have a tendency to like things we wouldn't, and bacteria like giardia is contagious to us. Giardia is a bacteria found in stool that causes diahhrea like symptoms and can only be treated with antibiotics.
Licking is a submissive social signal, first of all, allowing dogs to show deference to dominant "pack members."

Puppies lick to solicit solid food from their mothers when they're weaned, so a young dog may lick to request its dinner.

Some dogs lick as a substitute for puppy mouthing behavior. They've been trained not to put their teeth on people, so they lick to occupy their mouths.

Licking may be a sign of affection, your dog's way of showing you that he's enjoying spending time cuddled on the couch with you. Or, he may just like the taste of your soap!

I LOVE the doggie kisses I get everyday for whatever reason my doggie gives them to me!
It means that your face now stinks like dog breath, lol! Yuck!
when a dog licks you in the face they are saying your the alpha leader. In a pack the dogs go up to the leaders and lick them on the face to acknowledge that there the alpha dog.
There is truly no way of knowing, but it must be a sign of affection since this is the way that mother dogs groom their young. They are trying to show you a sign of affection with this action, even if you are not their offspring.
The dog may not actually know that they are giving kisses, but I do believe they are showing you affection and letting you know they do love you.Dogs are smart and even more so than some people that I know!!
I believe it is a form of affection. It is a greeting but your dog doesn't think " Oh look! Bob just came home from a hard day at the office!"
It's a greeting ritual they do when an alpha pack member returns to the pack.
Dog's don't kiss. Dog's don't lick salt from your hand either. Humans usually shake hands or hug upon greeting someone. Dogs lick the face of a pack member. If a dog jumps up on you, he is just trying to get closer to your face. Some dogs won't lick your face. They tend to be the ones who play the alpha role. They also better be bringing home the bacon in your house!
No, this is just basicly a reaction. It could be affection, though. Normally a sign of affection is sniffing or a wagging tail.

what does it mean when a dog is "neurotic"?

Answers:
Usually, an animal or person who is neurotic is emotionally unstable. In animals, neurosis results in repetitive actions that don't always fit the situation (i.e., spinning in place, barking at nothing, licking, chewing, etc.). Neurotic behavior in dogs can be due to neurological problems but, more often they are the result of boredom, lack of structured activity, too much energy and nowhere to use it, an owner who thinks the dog's behavior is cute, and intentionally or unintentionally condones the behavior (ie. tail chasing) or who fails to provide stability and discipline as the dog's pack leader.
That it's owner is crazy!
A SELF CENTERED DOG?
That it's owner is crazy and it is a female selfcentered dog.
The dog has an obsession with something and will repeat a reaction to an object over and over. Something is unbalance with the dog.
Lack of exercise, boredom and isolation can bring on a neurotic behavior in any dog.

Sometimes neurotic behavior can be seen as:
Ball, car, tail or even shadow chasing
Licking paws, floors
Pacing back and forth
Barking
Digging. etc.
Neurotic is a psychological term for a human mental condition. Generally when referring to a dog it means "crazy", and implies noisiness, and hyperactivity.

What does it mean to quarantine a dog?

Answers:
To quarantine anything means to isolate it from a situation. In a dogs case, lets say it has fleas. the dog will be removed from the presense of other dogs and people while carpets, couches, and even people are sterilized. This isolation and medical shampoo treatment during quarantine kills the fleas. A vet will quarantine a dog in a room away from other animals. I hope this helps!!
Quarantine means to isolate. To answer your question, you would be isolating a dog from other animals and people.
It means that you (or a vet office) must place your dog in an area where the dog is not in contact with any other animals for a specific amount of time. Also depending on what disease your dog is being quarentined for, people might not be allowed to be around your animal due to it being a zoonotic (animal to human) disease. Basically your dog is being quarentined so that he/she will not infect and spread whatever he/she may have.
Basically there's a possiblity the dog has been exposed to something BAD and CONTAGIOUS. SO they Isolate it from other animals and People for a certain amount of time to see if it has any symptoms of disease.
Your dog (or other animal) might have been introduced to something that can be very harmful to other animals and either make them REALLY sick or even kill them. Just like when new animals are brought to a zoo or clinic they have to be kept in a different room and kept under supervision so they can be observed with their habits and so on and so forth and if nothing is found then they are allowed to be releas'd with the other animals of the same species.
Keeping the animal in a controlled enviorment

What does it mean if my dog is chewing on his nails?

I've never seen a dog do this before. We dont cut them because he runs around and files them on his own, also because he hates it when we try. Hes chewing on them himself though, and chipping them in half.
Answers:
I would trim your dog's nails with clippers from the pet store. If you do not want to do them yourself a lot of pet stores with groomers will do it for you for a nominal fee. If your dog has white nails it's not too difficult to do. You only clip the ends and not where you can see pink. The pink part is the vein and will bleed if you cut it. Just take your time and do not take off too much at one time. Since your dog does not like it I would suggest clipping two per day, be firm and stick to your guns. Always end on a happy note, saying good girl or good boy. If you do this often enough, your puppy will know who is boss and will comply. Personally, I use a battery operated dog nail file by Oster. It works excellent.
He must be nervous.
my mothers dog does this too, she cuts her own nails , some dogs just are do it yourselfers.
something is buggin him.check for fleas or ticks between the toes.if this yields nothing, check his ears.sometimes an infection causes intense itching elsewhere.
it sounds like something is irritating him, like a skin irritation, or it could be anxiety.like if he's left alone often. I would reccomend you contact your veterinarian to make sure.
His nails need to be cut. They are either sore, or bothering him. Don't try cutting them yourself the first time. Take him to your local vet or pet store and let them show you how to do it properly. If you snip the quick, your dog will never let you do it again. If they are breaking he could also have a vitamin or mineral deficiency.
hahaha he is a do it yourselfer take him to the groomer get him a nail trim and see if he does it then
It could be chewing them because he is bored.

Take him to the vet to get him to clip them properly with proper clippers.

Also try to give your dog toys to keep him occupied, especially when you see him doing that try to interrupt him by giving him his favourite toy.
my moms dog used to do this when it was time for us to clip her nails. It could be that his nails are getting too long and are bothering him. If he gives you trouble when you clip them you can always take him in to a groomer just to have his nails done. I work at a grooming salon and we have lots of customers that just bring their dogs in for nail clippings and we do it while they wait. We only charge $5 for this service at our shop.
My dog does the same thing. His nails are kept trimmed, he has plenty of toys, and is in perfect health. I attribute it to boredom.
we had a dog that would knaw on his paws %26 it wasn't so much his nails. Even though his nails would chip %26 it seemed like that was what he was doing. He had severe allergies %26 apparently there is a connection to their chewing or knawing on their paws if if the allergen is not on/in their feet.

You might check to see if his paws are dry or have black stuff between the toes. This would be a sure sign that he has a yeast infection or something causing his paws to itch.

The dew claw can be sensitive too. The "thumb" nail can get injured super easy %26 maybe it is tender.

Maybe he just chews his nails like some people do? A nervous habit?

Good Luck :)

What does it mean if my dog growls at her pups?

Today my dog growled at her pups and tried to bite one of them. I am told that dogs sometimes eat their young, but these pups are just under 3 weeks old, and she had been an excellent mother up until this point.

Then tonight, out of the blue, she growled and then half-barked, half-yelped at one of them. We tried to relax her, and she did initially, but then it happened again and she actually had the pup's head in her mouth. We're not sure what to do since we can't possibly feed all 11 of them without her. What does it mean, and what can be done to stop it?
Answers:
You really need to help her out with feedings. Your poor mother dog probably has very sore nipples from all the feedings she has to do. At 3 weeks old, the puppies eyes are open and little pin teeth are starting to come in. 11 pups is too much for any dog. You can buy puppy formula and little bottles even at Walmart, so try to help her out. Also, contact your vet and ask what is a good soother for her sore nipples. Be sure to also check to make sure she doesn't have mastitis(infection in the milk glands) this will cause alot of pain and redness, fever and swelling in the breast tissue-mastitis could be deadly for mom and pups..consult your vet if you suspect any of these symptoms.
It could just be a bad day. Has she been away from the puppies at all?
She is just establishing pack dominance as leader.
This usally just means she's angry at them. If it dosn't stop in a few days contact the vet or the pound :).

Kat
Perhaps it's hurting her to feed. I'd check her nipples. If it continues, I suggest calling the vet.
C'mon now, your mom growls at you sometimes, now doesn't she? The poor dear has 11 hungry mouths to feed!! Make sure she's getting enough to eat and drink herself and see that she takes a break once in awhile, away from the pups! Just keep an eye on her but I think she may just be exhausted!! I sure would be!!
WEll i have never had a dog that had babies but my cat did and when she would scrach them our hiss at them that ment she was pregnet again but i dunno if a dog can get preg. that fast . well thats all i got
More than likely she is just a tired mommy who needs a break from her babies. She is just snapping at them and growling because she is frustrated. She's probably tired from feeding them since newborn pups need constant food and attention. Maybe it is a little bit of postpardum depression. I know it sounds ridiculous but it does happen.

Take her away from her puppies for a while. Give her lots of extra attention. Walk her, play with her. She just needs a little time out. Dogs will eat their young if there is something physically wrong with them and that's usually only if the puppies are sick.
Sometimes al it means is they are getting on her nerves and she is disciplining them. But yes sometimes dogs will kill their own pups usually it's because something is wrong with them.
How old is the mother? If she's been a good mom up till this point, it's possible it's because the puppies are starting to get their teeth and they hurt!! It could be that she's getting run down - are you supplementing the puppies (that's a lot for her to feed)?

Is she feeling insecure in the room with her pups? Are people or other dogs coming in and bothering her? Is she acting normal otherwise - eating and drinking ok?

It's possible she's just starting to discipline her puppies - they can get around now - was she moving the puppy to where she wanted him to stay? If she was going to eat them, she'd have done it when they were born, not now.

You need to just keep an eye on her, without seeing what's going on it's too hard to tell if she's just doing the normal disciplining. But if she's acting like there's something wrong with her, you may want to have a vet check her out (only if necessary, she won't want to leave the puppies for a long period of time),
It might be dangerous, but maybe you should take the puppies to the vet. They can advise you how to take care of the puppies without her mother. You are going to need a dropper to feed them with milk. I guess she didn`t want to be a mother.
Hmmm! Interesting.
Maybe you could get advice from a pet behavior expert, like that guy on television who goes around "diagnosing" animal behavior.

Dogs can become neurotic, in nearly the same way as humans do. (Not a pleasant thought, though, of course).

If I were you, I would closely observe the behavior of both the mother AND the pup that she has "disciplined", already.
(It sounds like the pup's behavior was not acceptable, to her!)

I know that mother cats often take their kittens into their mouth, by that loose flap of skin just behind the head, in the neck area: and, then those cat mothers transport the kitten to somewhere safe, usually.
(Usually the cat mommy is just keeping her babies safe, that way).

As to the doggie mommy, I am less certain.

Dogs, I know, are not as "coordinated" as cats are: so, the "puppy-head-in-the-mouth" thing may be similar to what a cat does--but without the "accuracy" of getting it right!
(Know what I mean?)
(So, a dog ends up putting the pup's head entirely into her mouth, instead).

Just check the pup's behavior, first.
Was it trying to wander off?

Note: Have you heard of mother dogs eating their young? I had always thought it was the father (or, non-father other male) that ate newborn pups--not the mother. I HAVE heard, though, of doggy moms who were just such bad mothers, at caring for their young, that they sat on their newborns and accidently smothered them, to death.

Final thought: Has she had a litter before? If so, was she a good mother then?
She might be trying to toughen them up

What does he want?

There is this dog who wines and if i go out side he tilts his head and grins. What does he want?
Answers:
Something to do. Play with him. Go for a good long walk to let him release some energy.
He wants to come inside!! LOL
Attention
He wants you to play with him.
go walking
just attention and some love and maybe something to eat
HE LOVEZ U!
The wining that he does could mean that he just wants to go outside and play. When you go outside and he tilts his head and 'grins' he could be thinking that maybe this time he will be going outside to play.its hard to tell what an animal is thinking.
He want some attention and he wants you to take him out too. Dead simple. Look after him or don't get a dog
he may want food ,water. your attention. it is lonely.. lost.
Food, attention, someone to play with him? Maybe Timmy fell down a well? (j/k)
Ummmm..probably wants to be let in the house. You're dog or a neighbors dog? If it's your dog let him in the house and pay some attention to the animal. Dog are pack animals and they need to feel like they are part of the family. If it's a neighbors dog it same thing.then only thing is you can't do anything about it except pet him and pay a little bit of attention to him.

OR..if he's outside and it's cold.let him the F'in house retard. He's probably freezing his little snipped balls off! @sshole!
To play with you.get a ball or stick and throw it for him.
DUH.. he wants to play
Attention and maybe a little cuddling. You can go to Walmart and get him a rib eye bone. They last a long time and taste yummy.to dogs :)
you

What does garlic do for dogs and do I give it raw?

Also any help for stinky breath for my dogs
Answers:
It would be better cooked or roasted with their food mixed in so its not too pungent to help keep away worms and regular use can help with fleas but only really small doses no more than 1/4 teaspoon a day or yes they will get very smelly brushing just with tap water gets rid of plaque tartar and helps their breath you must use a very soft brush preferably a old one which is worn out as their skin around the gums are fragile
well garlic aint gonna help with the breath and will make em s hit all over..you can buy doggy toothbrushes n special toothpaste for that stank breath.
All I know about dogs and garlic is that it makes them stinky from both ends and even gassier than normal - trust me on this, you do not want to be anywhere close - have a dog that is a canine garbage disposal who ate a whole garlic bulb - ewwwww!

As for bad breath try those charcoal tablets
It helps them to avoid getting worms. Give it to them mixed with their food. Not whole, but powdered would be better.

Onion and garlic poisoning Top
Onions and garlic are other dangerous food ingredients that cause sickness in dogs, cats and also livestock. Onions and garlic contain the toxic ingredient thiosulphate. Onions are more of a danger.

Pets affected by onion toxicity will develop haemolytic anaemia, where the pet鈥檚 red blood cells burst while circulating in its body.

At first, pets affected by onion poisoning show gastroenteritis with vomiting and diarrhoea. They will show no interest in food and will be dull and weak. The red pigment from the burst blood cells appears in an affected animal鈥檚 urine and it becomes breathless. The breathlessness occurs because the red blood cells that carry oxygen through the body are reduced in number.

The poisoning occurs a few days after the pet has eaten the onion. All forms of onion can be a problem including dehydrated onions, raw onions, cooked onions and table scraps containing cooked onions and/or garlic. Left over pizza, Chinese dishes and commercial baby food containing onion, sometimes fed as a supplement to young pets, can cause illness.

Onion poisoning can occur with a single ingestion of large quantities or with repeated meals containing small amounts of onion. A single meal of 600 to 800 grams of raw onion can be dangerous whereas a ten-kilogram dog, fed 150 grams of onion for several days, is also likely to develop anaemia. The condition improves once the dog is prevented from eating any further onion

While garlic also contains the toxic ingredient thiosulphate, it seems that garlic is less toxic and large amounts would need to be eaten to cause illness.
Unless want to KILL your pet PLEASE don't give it garlic or onions
i think, but im not sure, but i think garlic helps with the fleas

what does a springer and a cocker spaniel produce?

Answers:
It can only produce a DOG or Mut, if your talking about dogs,if your looking for puns, how about a spring cockerel.
a * springer?
A spaniel, but I would'nt know what it's called, maybe a sprocker teehee
springcock lol only joking
i dont know there queit the same arent they
an overly hyper dog. i have a springer/lab. she was completely wild until she went blind at 13ish. she even went to training classes and that didnt help. be prepared to go nuts with that litter. they will be cute, but hyper
a co ck spring
Either a Socker or a Spinger.
A Springer spaniel Or a Sprockeraniel
A mut.
I can think of at least one thing that dogs produce a lot of..

But do you mean you intend to breed these two kinds of dogs? Why on earth would you want to deliberately breed mutts? There are far too many mutts being killed in animal control every day.

Just spay and neuter. It's better for the dog and better for the guys at animal control that will have to kill your puppies.
A springcock
think it is called a Cockspringer
A Mutt?
A SPRINGY *
Uhhh.A spaniel mix. It's not called anything really. It's a mix.
A Spocker?

A Spanger?
A spocker spaniel! haha!
pups with a spring in their tails!
This cross is often deliberately bred by rough shooters who want a smaller, steadier dog than a pure springer. Believe it or not, the are advertised as sprockers. pointer crosses and lab crosses are called droppers.
A c ock ring
They produce "sprocker spaniels" and I'm not kidding! my neighbour at my caravan had one. It was extremely cute. A cross between a labrador and a poodle is a "labradoodle" How amazing is that?
A sprocker!
a mongrel
Hi,

The only reason to breed a crossbreed such as this would be for working purposes, and then only if both parents are exceptional in the field. Even still a well bred cocker or springer would generally be favoured over a crossbreed as with all crossbreeds every pup will be different and it's a bit of a gamble what parental traits the pups will inherit. Some people who breed this cross call them Sprockers, but really they should be called cocker/springer crosses. Calling them sprockers suggests that they are actually a breed..which they are not and is therefore deceptive. They should not be sold for anymore than a mongrel, just the cost of covering the proper care of a b1tch in whelp and the raising of healthy pups.

Hope that helps.
Just like Cocker-poo and Labradoodle and pomchi and yorki-poo

it would be a MUTT with a funny name to make it seem more valuable and sell it for $1000's of dollars!
I once mated a Shi tsui with a bull mastiff..
A crossbreed.
they'll be cross breed puppies, lovely, I like both breeds.

what does a neopolitan massive dog look like?

Answers:
http://www.champdogs.co.uk/guided/all_ne.
the name of the dog is neopolitan mastiff
http://www.pets.ca/breedprofiles/a/neapo.
I think you mean neopolitan MASTIFF. Try the link below to see a pic and other info.
The whole mastiff family are a very large breed.
Neo's can be grey marle (different shades), or black marle.
They are very very strong and I would only recommend if you are familiar with the breed.
They make an excellent guard dog, and can easily bring an adult down.
They are head strong and aggressive and need a very experienced owner.
They are gorgeously huge and wonderful guard dogs. They look like a buff great dane in a way, but they tend to have slobber threads on each side of their mouth that when they shake it off, the slobbs can fly to the ceileings! They are great, I wish I had one.
Have you seen the Harry Potter movies? That's what a neo mastiff looks like.

What does "curb your dog" on a sign mean (exactly)?

Answers:
It means to please make your dog go pee and poop on/near the curb - as opposed to the middle of the sidewalk.
Not positive, But I'm pretty sure it means keep your dog under control.
I'm pretty sure it means keep them on a leash and under control at all times.
clean up the dog's poop
dont let your dog poop just anywhere, and dont let it run wild..
tie it up
it means to make the dog walk and * near the road side so when he craps someone doesnt mire it with a shoe sole and also so ths clean-ups can take place near the road and not in the [path - logic
it really does mean to clean their poop i gotta do it
it means don't let your dog go to the bathroom anywhere near where the sign is posted. it doesn't literally mean make them poop on the curb though lol. and always clean up after them :)
I live in NYC, and see these EVERYWHERE.
They're usually on planters, and if dogs pee on planters, it kills the plants, so building managers are asking you not to let your dog pee on the plants/flowers, and to bring them to the curb (or just away) from the planters.
It's also just better/practical/polite to curb your dog than to let them pee/poop in the middle of the street or in a planter.
control your dog, keep your dog on a very short leagh
It means exactlly what it says. Walk your dog next to the curb and away from my property.

What does "All dogs go to heaven" mean?

Answers:
it means that each dog is a perfect angel and blessed with an afterlife with u
it means that unlike us humans, there are no bad dogs. just really bad owners. and if those owners go to hell. I promise you that I will not mind a bit.
To me it means that dogs are innocents, and really are not malicious or evil.
it is the title to a kids movie
It's just a reflection on the nature of the dog; they are considered good, loyal and pure. Dogs are born kind. And so, they would go to heaven.
because Dogs are faithful.. give to human unconditional love, dogs never betray like human.. dogs are innocent.. that's dogs's nature and of course all dogs will go to heaven
Unlike humans, dogs are pure of heart, so when they die, they go straight to heaven.
it's just a movie talking about how dogs go to heaven just like humans but to doggy heaven which is not true because dogs do not have souls like we do.You can look that up in the bible
Because dogs give love unconditionally, always room in heaven for them!

what do you think?

do you think cliping boxers ears are animal crulty my personel opinun i think yeh it is crule i would never do that to my boxer
Answers:
I wouldn't necessarily say it's cruel, if it's done properly by a vet. The dog is put under anesthesia and given something for pain. HOWEVER, I do think it's unnecessary. Changing the way an animal looks won't make it a better pet.
yep
Yes because would u want somebody clip off your ears.
Yes, I do, What is worse is when some one take a pair of scissors to a dogs ear, because they think they know what they are doing and think it will look cool.
HUH?

LMFAO
Your spellings and grammar are even more cruel.
yea its extremely cruel that owners actually do thet to their dogs.any1 who does that does not deserve to hav a dog
I think they look better with the "floppy" ears God gave them. i have a Boston terrier and I did NOT have his ears docked for several reasons. I like him just the way he is.
Yes.
no way. i think if you would think it hurts then don't do it to dogs or any other animals. i do think that is cruelty. that is suppose to make them meaner but i like my dogs to be nice.
I like the ears and the tails natural :)
looks (in my eyes ) cuter.
I think it is cruel and unnecessary, the people who do it are just altering the dog's appearance for their own gratification with no other appearance. Than again I guess we can not expect much when there are so many people who change their appearance through cosmetic surgery. But at least that is their choice to put themselves through it, the poor dog is just subjected to the pain.
I love the floppy look and cropping is painful.
I think it is cruel, the babies are born with floppy ears and they should stay that way. If they were suppose to be cropped then they would be born that way. My boss has one and she got it done to her, just because that is what you are suppose to do, not because you liked the way it looked, which is stupid to me.

what do you think should happen to people that abuse dogs[animals]?

i heard this man saying how they ate dogs?[in Mexico]
Answers:
people should be treated as they treat others and animals. people that abuse animals are sick in the head and very weak minded. they abuse those who cant stand up for them selves which makes them even more pittyful. report abuse. someone needs to stand up for the weak.
They should be abused in the same way!!
I am an animal fan and I personally think they should go to jail.
animal abuse leads to serial killers! it is a proven fact!
Go to jail and get tried at court as if they abused a human. We are all the same.
Get a rope, hang them!
Have some one come %26 beat on them!
IM A DOG PEOPLES!!
I hope they are a special place in hell for them.
go to jail, and get fined
They should be reported to the animal abuse society.
they should be arrested and have to pay a huge fine and are never allowed to have animals again
An eye for an eye, you eat a dog. they should let dogs eat you! I heard about a guy that had his dog tied to his truck in the bed, and the dog fell out and was dragged by the truck. Tie his stupid butt up to a truck and drag him around! I hate people who do cruel things to animals!
Animal abusers shoulld be severely punished.

However if you are talking about different cultures that eat them for food. It's not fair to critisize(sp?) them for that. Not everyone around the world eats mainly beef, chicken, and pork for their main meats. I love dogs so I would never eat one but I also don't agree with people eating lamb, as many around the world do. I don't call them animal abusers just because they eat it though.
Don't know if this is the culture in Mexico or not but dogs are eaten in some cultures. Gross huh? Animal abusers should absolutely be prosecuted.
Well..eating dogs isnt abuse no more it is then we eating cows. But the real abusers, I think should do some real time..they had to suffer through it, and never understood love. But it'll never happen..they'll just get a fine, and not be able to own an animal for awhile..or never.
Many cases of animal abuse occur because people are ignorant and do not know how to properly care for an animal. i believe that these people should be educated about proper animal care and that they should not be allowed to have a pet until they have taken a class on proper pet care. And as for those people that abuse animals purposely they should be sent to jail as well as fined. As for the man in Mexico he may be abusing an animal in our eyes, but we have to remember that he is part of a different culture. With different cultures come different delicacy's.
Some cultures think of the dog the same way that we think of a cow or deer. but abuse is different not taking care of an animal :food, shelter, health care, safety . Where I live USA Texas they have severe penalties for animal abuse If you are not afraid to file on someone if you see it But if you don't speak up Then it will go unpunished
i think they should get there just reward. a heavy heavy fine
go to jail 4 1 year and pay the spca half of there income for 1 year
so next time they think twise about hurting a animal
hanging to good for them
Let the punishment fit the crime. Whatever the abuser does to the animal, let the same thing be done to them. I hate people who abuse helpless animals. In some countries it is customary to eat dogs, like we eat cows and pigs, but I don't think it is right.
Sorry to tell you this but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, to many in other nations customs and eating habits are quite different than ours. Ever consider how Hindu's in India view our eating beef?? Beef does come the "sacred" cow you know.
i should get to beat each one in the head with a blunt object until they feel as much pain as they caused the animal
They should have the same thing happen to them. It is so unfair because the poor animals can not speak up for themselves its up to us to help them. It makes me so angry to watch those animal cop shows and see people disregard these animals and get away with it on top of that! It should be taken more seriously and have a much higher consequence than probation come on!
I think the abuser should serve jail time.It just seems in our society the punishment for animal abuse is strong enough. The penalties needs to be stronger.
they should be thoroly floged and put in jail whith crapy food
I love animals, especially dogs. It makes me sick inside to think of what some people do. In China the chow chow was bred for eating. Yuck. I think that their karma will eventually catch up to these sick individuals that hurt animals or people. However, I believe in my heart that they should get punished for the crime against animal or human. The punishment should fit the crime.
I agree with the answer that what they do, should be done to them. That ranks right up there with ederly and child abuse. I am all for the eye for and eye motto.

What do you think of those Mobile dog grooming vans.?

Answers:
We tried that a few years ago.. I was the poor sap who went out there into the cruel world to be abused by the general public. Check their references. Are they bonded? And of course what kind of experience do they have? But give them credit. It is not an easy job!
don't know
I would check their referances but there a good idea for those who cannot visit a grommer for whatever reason.
they're shiny.
I have used mobile groomers and they were great and convenient. Just make sure they keep their work areas clean.
I've had them a few times and found them to be very convenient. It costs a little extra but my dogs are already home when the grooming is done. It's a nightmare getting four dogs over to a groomer and back even with the mini van.
after you have checked them out..like are they going to be around for repeat visits..great service. my dogs loved it as did I for convenience.you can pop your head in any time and check how things are going. not so with grooming places. try it out .

What do you think of the doggie "car seats"?

At a few pet supply stores they are selling "doggie car seats" for small dogs. They are like a carrier for your small dog but they attatch to your seat so as to keep your dog safe while driving in the car. In case of an accident or such so that your dog or puppy doesnt go flying through the wind shield or so that your dog isnt distracting you while you drive. I have been reading up ALOT on taking care and training a puppy because we are getting one on Saturday and most say to keep your dog in a crate or carrier in the car to keep him safe while driving, but some people are giving me troubles when I say I want to get this "doggie car seat" for our puppy. Now I know my dog is not a baby but I still dont want anything to happen to her in case of an accident or sudden stop. It doesnt strap the pup in like a kid it is just like a carrier and very comfortable for the pup. What is your opinion please?
Answers:
I think you're right that the dogs need some protection in case of a sudden stop or a crash. I don't think those seats offer that sort of protection. My auntie has them and the dogs still bounce around.
Dog seat belts work better. They go on the dog like a harness and clip into the seat belt. It uses the car's safety features, which is better than those seats. Get them at most large pet stores.
A most excellent idea!
Doggie car seats are great! I have both an american bull dog and pit bull who love to be in the car. When I got the car seats they loved them, their comfy, and it keeps them safe, instead of them falling off the seats, they stay in one place!
I think a harness and attatched to a seat belt works well, and the dog itself is secure.. not just the seat. I dont know it the seats allow you to secure the dog too.
I have one for my 14 week old Bichonpoo who weighs 5 pounds. She will be 10 pounds full grown. At first she would whine when I put her in it. But now she lies down in it and sleeps through all the car trips. It has a short tag with a clasp on the end that attaches to a collar or harness. I find it much better than putting her in a carrier in the car. The carrier can become a projectile in an accident. Word of caution however do not put the car seat in the front passenger seat unless you can deactivate the air bag. In an accident the air bag could suffocate the pup.
It's better than tying them to your bumper.
i think this great i have a lil. dog myself and every time we get in the car she goes every were and it is kind of distracting especially when shes trying to lay on my lap so i say you should get one. now that you bring this up i'm thinking of getting one myself!
OK, you said you want to keep the dog safe?? how is a "car bed" going to help! people on here are right! get the dog harness that the seat belt helps keep them safe!! seems like you are thinking of stuff CUTE not SAFE!!
A lot of states now have animal control regulations for in a vehicle. You should check your local regulations. In my state you have to have the animal secured with a crate or a fence behind the seat so that they cannot distract the driver. We put our two greyhounds behind the last seat in our van.just enough room for them to stand, sit, lay and for them to stay out of trouble. Remember your puppy will grow and you might want to purchase something that will hold him from now into the future.

What do you think of dog grooming? (question for dog groomers especially)?

I am interested in dog grooming as a profession. I did a 1-summer dog grooming internship and enjoyed it. I did some grooming and a lot of watching.

Next, I talked to dog groomers and heard many complaints. Most say that they are way to busy and have arthritis or some other problem from working with their hands all day.

I would like to here opinions about this job from actual groomers or those that know a lot about the industry. Will I be dissappointed like so many others? Would dog training or boarding be a better career choice?
Answers:
I've been a groomer for 39 years. No carpal tunnel or other health issues as a result, but I have been bitten on a number of occasions, but in that time only 3 occasions sent me to the hospital.

The biggest problem I see with new groomers starting out is that the grooming schools in my area do a really poor job of preparing students for actually working in the industry. At best they've done a few breeds and a few different haircuts. Unlike grooming school where you will have most of the day to do one dog, in a shop environment you will need to be able to turn out 5-7 dogs a day in order to make a living at it. Mosr shops pay commission, and if you can't turn out several dogs a day you may earn less than minimum wage.

Grooming is hard work. Lifting, bending, cleaning up after "accidents", keeping your various body parts out of the mouth of a dog who does not like being handled, etc. all take a toll. Most groomers I know who have been at it longer than a few years do it because they love the job and the dogs they work with. A number of those who go into the profession thinking they will have a fun job playing with the puppies all day have a reality check as soon as they really start working and call it quits after a short time.

Many young people coming into this profession have a very poor work ethic and this is one business where that just won't fly if you expect to have a job for long. When a shop has 30 dogs booked in and a groomer just no-shows because she found something better to do that day, most employers don't realize until too late that they are shorthanded and the dogs for the day have already arrived. Finding and keeping good talented groomers was the most difficult part of running a grooming shop, and the primary reason I eventually sold my own shop after 12 years and opted to work for someone else.

Then there are the various shops you work at. Some are better than others in terms of pay and workload. I've worked for some that the owner takes all the easy and/or expensive dogs and enough for her to live off of and gives employees the rest, maybe only two or three a day. I've worked for others who seem to think their employees should be able to turn out a dozen dogs in a few hours, regardless fo the type of work needed. Employees in both cases end up quitting, either for lack of work or too much. Some owners keep their shops clean, some don't. Some maintain equipment, some don't. Some supply virtually anything in the way of expendable supplies, others provide close to nothing.

Truly, you have to love the business and be willing to spend time learning. I personally love it. My days are never quite the same, and I've met many wonderful people and their dogs, worked with many excellent groomers and generally have had a wonderful career.
Lots of backbreaking work, get bit, anal sacks, little hairs in your skin, crabby clients, and carpal tunnel. It was a load of fun. I stopped that after 5 years. Could do it NO longer!
I did it for a little while. I enjoyed working with the dogs, but some of the owners could be pretty crabby. But that's how it is anytime you have to deal with the public. If you love animals and enjoy grooming, then I say go ahead and do it. You can always go into training or boarding later. It never hurts to learn every aspect about dogs, and that includes grooming.
I totally agree with everything CS had to say.

Ive been grooming for about 15 years. I don't regret it, and I cannot see myself doing anything else. I don't have carpal tunnel, but there are days where my back is just killing me at the end of the day. (however..I have back problems to begin with..non grooming related)

It's not playing with puppies all day. You will have to deal with pee, poop, bugs, crabby/picky owners, crabby dogs, dogs that bite, jump all over you, wiggle all over the place, hair in every part of your body.

It's not just knowing how to give a haircut either. You will need to know how to run/manage a business, some accounting (unless you are an employee) You need to know about shampoos, skin problems, equiptment maintence, people skills, breed styles, and you will need ALOT of patience!!

I went to a grooming school to train. And like CS said..I had 8 hours to groom ONE dog. By the end of my training, I was up to 2 LOL. And 90% of the dogs that came through that school, were perfect angels. I learned alot from school, and the instructors were amazing groomers. I just wish that they would have taught us a little more on how to deal with dificult dogs, owners, and help us build up our speed for "the real world".

Before I went to school, I worked for a very busy groomer as a bather for 4 years. I already knew what the grooming industry was all about, and knew what I had to look forward to.
I know you said you interned for a summer. Before you make a decision on what you want to do, I would try to get a job for a couple years as a bather somewhere.preferably with a good groomer. That way, you will know what all goes on, and see if this is what you really want to do. Grooming school cost me $5,000 and that was years ago. That's alot of money to spend on something you are not going to want to do after a year.

What do you think of China's new rule of one dog per family ?

China last year slaughtered over 50,000 dogs due to a scare of rabies. So one dog per family is a way to cull dogs.
Answers:
I think it's outrageously stupid and cruel. Families should be allowed to have as many dogs as they want. Well, within reason. The Chinese should've created a vaccination for the rabies, not slaughtered innocent dogs.
although i dont entirely agree with it, they have to do what they have to do, but should also introduce legislation to de-sex animals before they reproduce
i think that it is a better idea then what they were doing i saw pictures of them beating dogs to death with long clubs i cried it was so heartbreaking. though it will be hard for the families that do have more than one dog to choose which one they keep.
That would be a good idea. They just had too much human population population %26 dog population, and they have a lot of abusive problems. I have seen videos of people in China skining dogs alive and hitting those dogs, they are the craziest and most cruel people alive, all because of money. I really wish I can skin their children alive!!
We think this is absurd. There is no way to enforce the law, no way to effectively stop the arbitary breeding of street dogs, and no way to stop commercial breeders from breeding dogs that make so much money for them.
I think this is a horrible rule, however, China limits how many children you can have, why not limit pets? They do have a limited amount of space, so I guess I can see where that's going. Slaughtering of dogs just because they MIGHT have rabies? That's disgusting. Makes me want to hug my dogs when I get home!
its a great rule. Most of the population is in the urban areas. Think of all the waste the dogs would produce in those areas. While i think it will be hard to enforce in the countryside i think it is a good way to clean up the streets before the Olympics arrive
I think they are facing the reality of their resources and the world in general in a rational way by limiting each family to one dog. If they can put a limit on children, why should dogs be more of an issue?
It's abominable because so much slaughter could be avoided. However, I think the question falls into oblivion when you should consider the human tragedy of female babies being killed or abandoned because chinese couples can only have one child
Why don't they just require all dogs get rabies vaccinations? I think they've gone a little overboard. As intelligent as they are supposed to be they sure have a lot of problems. It's hard to believe only 30 percent of their dogs are vaccinated. So now it's one kid, one dog per family, what next?
They've had a policy of one baby per family for years, and children are dumped or murdered as a result. So I can't get as upset as I might.
I didn't hear that but it sounds intresting.Hum?.I wounder how they intend to get rid of the left overs and Farrel dogs? It's a well known fact that the dog like the rat are zodiac years signs but they eat their zodiac animals as well. they say it's good fortune I learned this when I saw them eating Bats! and Rats! Now that they have a plan to address the over population of Dogs, what are they going to do about the overcrowding of people?? dang..hope they get full on the critters first!! :)
No, I don't think China should be allowed to have ANY pets. They had their chance, and they ruined it by killing the dogs. Tough sh*t China, if you want animals then you shouldn't be slaughtering them. All animals in China should be exported and no more animals should be taken in to China. Maybe if they are nice for the next 200 years and don't abuse any more animals then they can get some back.
i think its *.
Good idea why do you need more than one dog ? does this include working dogs?
Not much different that the 2-3 dog limits in many townships in the states hugh? or the 3 PET limit (4 guppies %26 you're in violation)
I think you will find it's kids as in children.
That's a bunch of bologna!! if they don't want the dog don't they just ship it to America or any other country that actually wants the dogs. look at all the dogs that are slaughtered over a year. i call you a murder! no offense to chines people or food but DAMN YOU CHINA!
What do you think of the laws in the USA where you can only have 2? Or 3?

Its a way of culling dogs here too. Thanks to the animal 'rights' groups for pushing these stupid laws.

What do you think of brindle pugs now?

It has finally happened a brindle pug in the ring in Canada!
Just curious to know since most of the show people on this site are American, how people feel about a brindle pug being shown in the ring last weekend in Canada and awarded a 1st place ribbon in it's class?

This has caused a huge upset in the pug community and I have been told that the AKC is having an emergency meeting to look at revisitng the wording of the standard. My understanding is that a brindle pug in not allowed in the ring in America period !
Is this correct?

In Canada our National club is still trying to figure out what they are going to do about this, but aparently letters will be sent out to all the judges to educate them about the Canadian breed standard which does not disqualify brindle as a color.

The brindles came from a breeder in the USA and are AKC and CKC registered I saw the papers with my own eyes (the owner also said that the dogs were DNA tested.)
She has 2 brinde pugs entered in the Lower Mainland Dog Fancier, show at the end of the month, the biggest dog show in Canada. If they are not excused from the ring there is a chance, even if it is a slim chance, that one (or both) could get a Canadian Championship as there are 3 specialties at that show
.
I'd like to hear from people about there thought on this.
Answers:
It has caused a huge upset because the brindle gene does not exist in Pugs. The Canadian Pug breeders are upset because it is not possible to have a brindle purebred Pug and must have had the brindle gene introduced via a Boston or Frenchie.

The standard doesn't specifically disqualify brindle, just as it doesn't disqualify blue merle or harlequin. LOL! It is not an accepted color in the standard as purebred Pugs STILL do not carry the gene for brindle, nor will they next month.

The 'win' was actually 1st in a puppy class of one. People are upset because the dog wasn't excused, but the judge is a foreigner and obviously didn't know the standard.

I seriously doubt the AKC is having an emergency meeting to revise the standard because some foreign judge doesn' t know the Canadian standard. Especially considering the AKC has nothing to do with writing standards, the breed clubs write them.

Adoption-
So you think this is some genetic throwback to some long lost brindle carrying dog? LOL! Don't you think brindle would have appeared before now? Especially considering brindle is a DOMINANT gene? Jeeez people, take a class!

Meggz-
I have been showing in Canada for 30 years and have NEVER seen a white Dobe in the ring, and that is one of the breeds I often watch. I highly doubt it is listed as an acceptable color in the Canadian standard.
I guess for me I don't see what the problem is. Brindle is a color. If the dogs are AKC and/or CKC registered, then what is the issue? And please don't say it has to do with Pug's not carrying the brindle gene so therefore regardless of the papers it's not a pure-breed dog. Like it or not, NO dog is pure-breed and I don't care what your papers say. All breeds of dogs are results of mix breeding and genetic alterations. Granted some maybe from 100 or even 1000 years ago but what makes your dog any better than the newer genetically altered dog? I love Pugs and I own quite a few but who cares what color they are?? Really? What is the real issue? Are those of you with the typical fawn or black colored pugs afraid the brindle pug is gonna beat yours?
I"ve never seen a brindle pug before, and as far as I know, it doesn't fit the AKC standards, which state fawn, silver or black. If they could prove that the pug hadn't been altered or cross-bred in some way, then I guess the AKC would have to accept it, but it sounds like it's going to be a long fight.
It is admirable for you to inquire. I know little to nothing of pug colors accepted or not. But got to the Pug Dog Club of America or something like that in your google search and look it up. I am a purebred fancier, although I am someone who believes OUR FANCIED PUREBREDS all came from a mixture of dogs to obtain a breed. Today people are making the designer dog, fancied by many and rejected by others. I do not agree with people trying to convince other of a "purebred laberdoodle", but I also do not care either way what they breed. I will continue to own a purebreds. Back to your question, sorry I ramble, I have seen an outburst of brindle pugs in Alaska. I am not sure why. There are black pugs, and a lot of black breeds can be a "reverse" brindle and until someone gentically investigates the issue extensively I would not rule out a ressesive gene. But honestly I do not know either way. Someone could have bred to another breed like a Boston, fudged the paper, got registered pugs and voila! Brindle pugs. If you have a brindle pug, love it! It is still a little fur buddy that loves you. If you want a brindle pug because it may become a cute fad like any other designer dog, remember that it is still a dog at the end of the day. Good luck.
Well geeeeeeeeeze.the BLANKETY judge should NEVER be hired again-BY ANYBODY! What an IDIOT!

One can only PRAY that the other judges have their BRAINS (%26 BALLS!) attached %26 DUMP the TRASH where it BELONGS! The stupidity of one IDIOT won't effect the rest of the (intelligent) world!

I've done CKC %26 -no offence intended-LOTZ of Canadian judges couldn't find a GOOD dog in a ONE-ENTRY class!! Some AKC judges are nitwits too,of course-LOL!!
Every kennel club is different and I don't find the Canadian one to be a high quality. They allow they showing of white dobies as well, which is a genetic mutation effecting pigmentation, also white are known to have more health issues along with behavioral issues (in dobies, whites tend to loose their sight and can become very aggressive). I personally do not feel the brindle pug should be shown. One of the other responders was correct in that this color allele does not occur in the purebred pug population, it had to be introduced from another breed.
Here in the US you can show a brindle pug in AKC events. BUT, the dog won't win if it's up against anything with 4 legs. It isn't the preferred color for a show dog. The same goes for white and platinum pugs. And with the AKC the dog must be DNA tested to accumulate any points, so that would rule out any mixed breeds. UNLESS, the mix was added in several generations back and it can't be detected, because the pug doesn't carry the brindle gene. (This is the common idea)

what do you think of a germen sheperd and dobermen mix?

i have 4 kids 2, 4, 8, 11 and she is 2 yrs old and just got fix are they good dogs around children
Answers:
I had a g.sheperd/doberman mix and he was great with my kids..just be sure to teach her and the kids some ground rules..kids shouldn't bother the dog while she's sleeping, eating or chewing on a bone..and the dog shouldn't be allowed to play to rough with the kids..or act aggressive with them.Since the dog is already two years old be sure to supervise at all times around the little ones until you are assured that she tolerates small chidren well. I had my dog for 13 years,he passed on 5 years ago, and we never had any problems.Good luck to you and your family and I wish you many, many years with your new addition to the family..
Both breeds can be great with children, so a mix has that potential. A lot of it depends on whether she's lived in a home with them before and if she genuinely seems to like them.
A wonderful dog for kids. Both are protective of their family. As long as she doesn't come with bad habits I don't see a problem getting her. Maybe you can have the chance for a trial visit first to see how she acts around kids. Even though both breeds are good with kids its usually best to get a puppy, if she hasn't been around kids it might be a too much for her. Overall a good choice but I would strongly suggest a trial visit with her age.
I'm not sure i would purchase a large adult dog, if you have children at home, you have no idea how the dog will react while eating, sleeping, being tugged on, laid on etc. i would not take the chance it takes one bite. if you want a dog , start with a puppy that you can train and know completely.
what I heard is that German Shepperd's and dobermans are good dogs to have around kids, they r also very protective and gentle around kids and will protect them like they were there own.
Just based on the breeds, it would be a good match for kids. But as with any dog you shouldn't leave it unsupervised around your small children. Little kids often don't yet fully understand how to treat dogs and you don't want them learning the hard way. As a general rule, the bigger the dog the better they are with kids. Little dogs tend to be more nervous and anxious around little hands, sudden movements, and loud noises.

Try a supervised visit with her and the kids and see how it goes. If she seems really skittish or aggressive then you need to reconsider. And definitely be sure to find out if she is food aggressive or not! Good luck!
Both breeds are very protective dogs. They are also big dogs which means that if you are not careful the dog could hurt one of your children seriously.

I had a doberman and currently own a german sheppard mix, they can be excellent with kids, but it depends on how the dog was raised. Very important to know: Has it been with kids since it was a puppy? Have you seen how the the dog acts around your kids? Does it want to play and is really happy and friendly to be around them, or does she seem to shy away and act annoyed?

If it were a puppy, I would say go for it, the pup will grow with your kids and get used to them, but a 2 year old dog of that size and those breeds, and with your own kids being so young, I would be nervous.

Again, it depends on the dog, but please make sure the dog has been socialized from a very young age with kids and make sure your kids know how to respect the dog because it could be a dangerous mix.
They can be great with children high energy though. As long as she does not bite. The 8 and 11 year old should be fine but watch her around the little ones she may play to rough. Make sure you establish you are the master and she is the dog. Other wise you can run into a problem of her thinking she is head of the pack. She is a very smart bread of dog.
Could be hard headed and will take time to train. Dobermans tend to test the people in the house to see who is in charge and the 2 %26 4 year olds are not going to be able to easily handle the dog and should not be unsupervised with any dog.
It could be fine depends on the tempermant of the dog and how good she is with children.
Neither is the best dog for kids as both will take direction from an adult far better than children.
YUCK! Just a horrible MUTT/MONGREL.

NOTHING is predictable about ANY MUTT/MONGREL,which,of course,is the POINT of pure bred animals!

NO dog should be subjected to torment by human offspring!

What do you think of a electronic collar on the lowest setting for a yappy small dog? I?

I have an 8 month old Pomeranian puppy. She is the love of my life and her training is going well, HOWEVER, she yaps at everything and nothing has worked. She is never alone as she goes to work with me so there is no anxiety or lonliness. She is walked for 45 minutes twice a day minimum so she gets plenty of exercise. Otherwise, she is a beautiful, sweet %26 calm dog. Her bark is very high pitched and LOUD and I do not blame people for hating it. I take her everywhere I go but am starting to make enemies with her barking. I bought a DogTra Bark Collar and am charging it up as I write this. I will put it on the lowest setting and go from there. Anyone had any experience with a small yapper?? This is a last resort or we will both stay home!
Answers:
sounds like you love your dog and at at your wits end. good luck.
Most dog bark collars are not recommended for toy sized dogs.

(I noticed the device you bought has no warning about that on their web page, most bark collar companies warn against use with toy dogs. The site also said small-medium sized bark collar, the same voltage that would be used on a basset hound sized dog will be going through your pom, doesn't that seem a little harsh to you?)

I would never use anything that would cause physical pain (let alone pay $80 for a device that would shock my dog)while training, it may have a negative result. Your dog may become submissive and scared of you as a result.
well, i don't agree with the dog wearing a collar that shocks..i suggest you try it on your neck first to see how it feels before you put it on your dog.

i think there are other ways to train your dog. why don't you seek professional training, or obedience class?

i have a loud barker too my maggie a rat terrier. but i would never do that to her.
It's important to understand BEFORE purchasing small dogs that they have a tendency towards high-pitched and loud barking. As you seem to be doing everything right (taking her with you, exercising her), it may simply be a part of her nature. Zapping her for a personality trait doesn't seem the best route to me (we don't zap people who talk too much).

I have a miniature dachshund and he, also, is a barker. He doesn't bark to annoy - he just happens to be vocal.

Electric collars aren't bad tools when used properly, but I just can't see this being a proper use.
you picked a "yappy" breed to live with and shocking your pup for being normal for the breed is going to change the happy natural way of life that is its nature. my vote is please dont do it. if you want a quiet dog get a besengi.
As long as the collar is intended for a dog the SIZE of your dog, I'm sure it won't hurt her. As long as it's used properly, it's no worse than a "choke" chain or other type of training collar. The one thing you might consider is that they do have an "ultrasonic" bark collar now. It emits a highpitched tone when the dog barks. Dogs can hear it but we cannot (or it's very quiet if we can). I've heard they are just about as effective as the shock collars.

In any case. if you do try the shock collar, just make sure you take it off at night and that she never wears it when you aren't around. No matter what type of collar you chose, training collars are generally only intended for supervised use and injury can result if they're left on 24/7 or when the dog is unattended. Good luck. Poms are a VERY yappy breed. at least all the poms I've ever known have been!
I DAMN hate yapping little dogs!
Make sure you do your research first before buying an electronic collar. I have the same problem with my little pom girl, she just turned a year old on halloween. I have tried everything to get her to stop and most of the time a strong "no" does the trick but if she really feels threatened or she hears something outside at night she goes crazy. I'm now considering a shock collar as a new method but i'm still doing my research; you should do the same before hurrying to "shut her up".
There are bark collars specifically made for small breed dogs. You may also want to shave a small patch of fur off her neck where the probes touch the skin. I highly recommend this as I am an owner of a full sized pure bred yappy collie. If you shave this small area there is better contact and the little "zap" they get is much more effective, ohhh and it will also help the battery last longer. Good luck.
I understand (my poodle shakes %26 rattles his tags ALL the time, and he barks whenever someone's at the door), but she is SO small! I know it's for a good cause, but really, it'd cause her pain and stress. Her personality, affection, and even her eating habits might change! PLEASE think before you do this to her!
honestly i am totally against any sort of collar that shocks. would you want a necklace that jolted you every time you speak? although you take your puppy everywhere, are you properly socializing her? (didn't you see on jackass when they put those on eachother?) it sounds like she probably gets spooked pretty easily, and probably has some sort of attachment issue (she may be being over-protective of you because she's so attached). i think it's time you get her a friend puppy and start leaving her home. there is no reason you have to take her EVERYWHERE! aside from that, that is a pommie for you. they are very high energy and vocal dogs..if you didn't want that in your pet you should've studied up first and selected a quieter breed of dog!
Oh no, please don't use the e collar. Your 8 MO is in infant yet. She will not be fully mature til she's a year or more. Do a search on "positive dog training" and you'll find many good books. Pat Miller, Jean Donaldson are but two terrific authors. I'm guessing your pup doesn't understand what you want.teach her..love her.don't hurt her. E collars should only be used by those trained in their correct use. There's a lot more to it than just "charging it up". If you must, try a citronella collar first -- it doesn't hurt quite as much as the e collar. And yes -- you should try out the e collar on yourself first.

What do you think it is that makes pugs so cute? Or ugly? What funny noises does your pug make??

I know my pug grunts and snorts, a makes a wierd trilling sound when you hold your hand over his head.
Answers:
mine grunts and snorts and sniffles and snufles but the she also makes a kind of slurping, grinding sounds because she grinds her teeth. oh, and have you ever seen the old three stooges movies? when she snores she sucks in the normal snorey way, but when she let's it out, she sounds like a sputtering motorboat!
Their personality. Babysat a pug for a while. Thought she was ugly at first glance but quickly she grew on me. Now I think the little critters are adorable. This pug would pant like crazy and made a kind of ssssing sound as she shivered (it was summertime so she wasn't cold). She snorted too, especially as she was napping.
