What causes a dog to sound like he is trying to blow something out of his nose? Should I take him to a vet?

Sometimes he sounds as if he has a runny nose and is trying to blow it out, and other times he just sounds congested.

My dog has the same problem. He always sounds like he is trying to cough up phlegm through his nose or something. It's weird. Sometimes he has trouble breathing, and he was just exhausted from breathing. He does it a lot, but the tiredness only happened that one time. I'd suggest getting it checked out. He could just have a sinus problem, but it could also be more serious.

There's no harm in being worried about your dog's health, and in the long run, it could help him, even if you do get stuck with an expensive vet bill.
Some breeds of dogs just do that. I had a shih tzu that snorted all the time. There is a minor surgical procedure that a vet can do to open up the nostils a bit if they are having alot of trouble with it.
More than likely he has a foxtail in his sinuses. Foxtails are the seed pods of certain grasses that grow pretty much all over the world. (If you didnt already know that.) It usually isnt too bad of a thing. It will slowly work its way down into the back of his throat and will be swallowed.

I wouldn't worry too much about it unless it is causing bleeding or a great deal of suffering. You can tell if it is causing pain if his eyes are watering contantly. If not just let it run its course and your pooch should be just fine
if u are so tensed, why take any chances? better to rush to a vet before it gets worse. dogs cant talk, u are the owner u should understand its every move. so go to a vet right away.
