What color should a dog's gums be?

I know that it shouldn't be pale, but "pale" is pretty vague and I'm not sure what people really mean when they say that. My dogs gums are a light pink. Is that bad?

Check out the picture, it shows very well the difference between pink and inflamed. I'll look for a pic of pale gums.

Edit:
This shows VERY pale gums. This is a severe situation, but shows very well the difference.

Sounds good to me:
The most commonly examined mucous membranes are the gums. The color of the gums is a good indicator of blood perfusion and oxygenation. The normal gum color is pink. If your pet has pigmented gums, lowering the eyelid can also give you an indicator of mucous membrane color. Pale, white, blue or yellow gums are cause for concern and you should contact your veterinarian immediately.
A easy way to check is to push on the gums with you finger. When you release the preasure they should be white and should turn pink in a matter of secounds! Less than 3!! Other than that check the site listed above!
no it isnt
i dont thik
Some dogs will have much pinker gums than others. It will also change for the individual depending on if they are nervous or have been exercising. It is a good idea to look at them ocassionally so you know what is normal color for your individual dog.
Pink and moist,if they are light pink then they are fine.
If they are pale to whitish then they are not getting enough oxygen.
they should be like yours. pale or yellowish is liver trouble. or some other bad stuff. enimea? dunno.. time for a well baby visit?
check out a picture of healty gums. very pale can be caused by anemia (which can be caused by infestation of fleas) very red can be infection and gum disease. be careful and if your not sure, talk to your vet.
whit pink black or a mixture of 2 or all 3
