what can you in your old dog seems to be lame?

dog is about 14 yrs and he is a large dogs has been having trouble getting around for awhile
Answers:
You should probably take him to the vet and get him checked for arthritis. If that is what the problem is, the vet can give you some pain medicine/ anti-inflammatory (Rimadyl, Derramax, etc). This is a very common problem in older dogs, especially large breeds. I had a Siberian Husky that suffered from arthritis when he was only 5 years old.
it depends what kindof dog it is and only horses can be lame silly, i ride
He probably has arthritis. You can get meds from the vet to help with the pain.
It could be simple arthritis or it could be another problem like lyme disease..which is spread by ticks.Have your vet test for lyme disease then if he/she is negative prescribe a anti-inflammatory for your dog to help ease the pain of walking, climbing stairs, and getting up. Rimadyl, coesquin, deramax, and previcox are good choices. Previcox is the newest out and has seemed to work really well with little side effects. While Rimadyl and Deramax can cause liver failure/problems over time. Ask you vet what is best for your dog.

p.s dogs can be lame too.
Arthritis - Hip Dysplacia - HOD are just some possibilities

Lame is lame.. horse, dog, cat, whatever. Lame is lame

Talk to your vet. Seek treatment and be patient with the dogs needs just as you would your own or another loved one

I have even seen doggie ramps to help geriatric dogs get into an SUV, things like that
I have a sixteen year old schnauzer who has trouble getting around sometimes. I give him canine aspirin up to three times a day. It can be purchased at petsmart/petco for around 10 dollars.

Keep in mind that arthritis gets worse the colder it gets.
I know if you had it that long it will hurt for you to this but sounds like you might have to but it down. The dog is in alot of pain and it live is not what it use to be it would be better off than suffering like it is.
The best stuff in the world is called Rimadyl. you can get it from a vet. If you cannot afford it though, you can get some stuff that is called "Ascriptin" from the grocery store - I know wal-mart carries it. White bottle.
If your dog is around 50 lbs or MORE you can give him one twice a day. I'd start with one once a day to see if it helps. I used to use that every day with my bulldog for his hips.
NEVER EVER use regular aspirin, baby aspirin, ibprofen, motrin.. any of that stuff with your dog. It can severly mess up their livers as they metabolize pain meds differently than we do.
